I've been searching for a new resort to chill before the summer come. After a long search I bump with this nice name of resort Paraiso Verde Resort and Water Park.

Then searching deep with this resort then I was amazed with their water tubing indoor activity. They have 183 meter loop pool and have a few meter canal types like RIOGRANDE Rapids of Enchanted Kingdom. I guess this is their main attraction but that was not just their main magnetism they also have an Olympic type of pool that you can train yourself to be the best swimmer. I think that was an Indoor type of practice pool for those who want to be Michel Phelps in the future.

Kiddos is not out for this resort because they have kiddy pool to enjoy. Cute colorful structure is build for kids, for me it was a water playground.

For those who wants wave you can enjoy the wave pool of Paraiso Verde and Water Park. There cottages was build light and colorful beside pool. They also have Restaurant inside the Resort. The place was clean and new.

Commonly, couples go out on a night to eat or just chill out and talk about anything. You would most probably look for somewhere silent and relaxing with the addition of the sumptuous food. Here are some of those:

Chippen’s. This restaurant, located at Roxas Avenue near Ateneo de Davao University, boasts their buffet. I have personally tried their food and I must say it was exceptional. The place also has a perfect relaxing ambience. When I was there, there was even piano music playing on the background. The buffet costs around P300-P400. But, who cares about spending a little more to have quality time with your loved one, right?

Ding Cha. Another hidden place in Davao is Ding Cha. Only a few people know that this small restaurant is located at V. Mapa Street. Because of the small number of informed citizens, the restaurant gets really silent at times. The food is also good and it is very affordable! With around P300, you and your other half can enjoy a full meal and spend the night away talking about anything under the sun. Who knows? Maybe one of your topics might have something to do with your wedding. Now, that’s exciting!

Kasagingan Coffee Shop. Not exactly the most special place for Valentine’s but I personally love the cozy feeling of the dim yellow lights and the soft couches. It’s not exactly a place to have a full meal but if you want to go a little healthy with a little caffeine, then Kasagingan is perfect. When you are here talking, try their Two-ron a la Mode, a dumpling-wrapped banana with chocolate drizzles and ice cream on top, for only P55. It’s served in two so you can extend the sweetness by sharing it.

Those are my personal top three dating places when you are in Davao City. The city is very large so there is a possibility that you’ll find a place or two wherever you go. Anyway, it’s not about the place, it’s about using it as an instrument to strengthen your relationship with your loved one to make it last for years.

As a Dabawenyo, I was one of those lucky residents that get to see a lot of places in the city. No, I’m not rich because most of those trips are funded by the school or by the office I was working with (which is why I called myself ‘lucky’).

Today, I am writing for those who want to travel to Davao but do not know where to go.

First of all, let me clear things up. Davao is not a place where war is a daily activity. In fact, Davao is one of the most peaceful cities in the Philippines with a crime rate that is close to zero. What I’m saying is that, when you are Davao, you are safe.

Now, let’s move on to my personal top three choices when it comes to Davao local tourist destinations. I have to be honest by saying that Davao City is not one of those places where you can see nature at its best. A large part of the city is already civilized and there only remain a few places that are covered with green trees. But still, there are really good places to check out if you are a tourist in Davao City.

Philippine Eagle Nature Center. Situated in Calinan, Davao City, Philippine Eagle Nature Center offers tourists a break from the busy city. With just an entrance fee of P55, you can enjoy touring around the green forest that houses a couple of eagle species. This can also be a great way to bond with your children and at the same time, have them educated about nature.

Davao Crocodile Park. Another place to feast your eyes with the default color of nature is the Davao Crocodile Park. Although it is a little costlier than the Philippine Eagle Nature Center, it is worth it. You can see more animals and enjoy the different animal showcases. It is also found in the center of the city which is easily accessible from anywhere in the city.

People’s Park. Most Dabawenyos would say they don’t like this place. I personally don’t actually like it that much too but I must say it is a good place to check out the city’s culture. It features art works of Dabawenyo artists, beautiful landscape and garden arrangement from creative designers scattered in a large space where you can relax and unwind... in the middle of the city! Plus, the entrance is free! You can ask anyone for the directions to check it out because every Dabawenyo knows where it is!

There you have it! I’d like to remind you that those are only my personal choices. There are still other Davao local tourist destinations around the metro. The fun part is discovering them one by one all by yourself!

A few months ago, some of my officemates planned a break at the beach. Because I was awesome, they decided to have me come with them (that’s just the way it is). The weekend getaway was on the verge of discontinuing as we had a difficulty in choosing a place to stay.

Then like a ray of light after a dark storm, we found out about Dayang Beach Resort.

A colleague of mine got hold of contact information of the owner of the resort so all our questions were answered and we were able to prepare before we got going.

Here’s a word. If you are planning to go to Dayang Beach Resort, BE PREPARED. The resort is a very remote area far away from the city. And, it is still in its development stage to better serve their customers.

When we went there during May 2011, it wasn’t that developed but it was already enough to have that R&R feeling. Personally, I like the place. It isn’t so luxurious that it remains its anonymity and it isn’t so ugly to the point of being an uncomfortable place to stay.

The only thing that kind of irritated me was the travel to and from. If you’re from Davao City, there is only one boat that travels straight to Dayang and it has only one schedule which is at 1PM on the weekends. Well, maybe I was irritated that time because I was not able to anticipate that the travel would last for an hour and a half and I didn’t have my lunch!

But, the irritation was suddenly overpowered with happiness when we arrived at the place. It was heaven for me! It was so silent and the water is so clear that you can see the cut where the water starts to get very deep.

There is no entrance fee yet during the time we went there, we made a deal with the owner to make all the amenities accessible if we get the duplex which only amounts to P1,800 and can fit 8 people. She agreed so we didn’t have a problem there.

What I didn’t like about the resort is the unavailability of tap water. The water that flows out the faucet is still saltwater so you need to bring a lot of water if you don’t want to buy there for your food or for washing purposes.

Another problem was the travel home-bound. The boat from Dayang leaves to port at 7AM. Unless you are willing to spend money and time on travelling the long way, you’d want to wake up early to catch the one and only boat ride back.

All in all, Dayang Beach Resort is the perfect getaway if you really want to have a break from all the stress in your work. The only thing you need to do is prepare. If you do this, you will surely have a great time at the resort

Looking back at the past year 2012, there is one highlight that I could never forget. Last November, I was fortunate enough to go with some of my colleagues to the beautiful paradise of Palawan.

I have always wanted to go to the place. It always fascinated me when they show the famous Puerto Princesa Underground River or the disgusting yet delicious tamilok. This is mainly the reason why I couldn’t sleep for days because of too much excitement for the trip.

So, flew we went. We entered the wondrous Underground River, we tasted the tamilok, we hopped in the islands of El Nido and had a lunch feast on one. But now, I will be talking about an experience some people might not be that aware of.

You see, aside from the mentioned tourists attraction, there is also one other place that made my jaw drop. It’s Honda Bay. My Honda Bay experience might be short but it was one hell of fun!

Honda Bay is famous for being a destination to go to when you want to go swimming, snorkelling, and diving. In fact, because of this, Honda Bay is slowly gaining popularity among local and international tourists.

We jumped off at Barangay Sta. Lourdes and rode a boat to get to the group of islands. The ride was not quite long from the city proper of Puerto Princessa . But if you’re the loner type, you would not enjoy it. I’m not so, together with some friends that I meet in the airplane and with my partner in life, we brought life and laughter while on the road (or the sea road).

First stop is the pambato reef, it’s not an island by the name itself. Pambato come from a visayan word as “contender” because of its nice coral formation and you can meet NEMO if you go and swim around the floating station. You can spend 30 minutes on pambatu reef and go to your next destination the Snake Island.

Second stopped at Snake Island. Well, it is an island shaped like a snake. Although it nothing but a long stretch of sandbar, it was still fun as it was something new to me.

Third Stop the Pandan Island, we spend out lunch in Isla Pandan Beach Resort. Our tour guide reserve us a cottage to be much formal while eating our lunch. And of course, there was food, really delicious and sumptuous food, from Isla Pandan. So IT’S FUN! We try there yummy buko halo-halo that was awesome and also there are local vendors offering us sea foods. A jaw dropping lobster and big crab, that was our order, they cook it in a ginger butter sauce. #NOMNOM

After spending a good amount of time at the Pandan Island, we went to the Starfish Island. I swear I have never seen a beach that has the finest white sand as in Starfish Island. It was just so perfect to go swimming as the powdery white sand blended well with the crystal clear water and joining the school of fish in just as low as 3 feet.

We went on to other islands but I truly couldn’t remember their names as my attention wandered to all the stunning views around me. I am a beach person and I just love the sight of the green trees and the blue waters which is why I loved Honda Bay.

FAQS Honda bay has 18 islands half of them are private and others are islets and they name the islands as what are most of that certain island. Sample is the snake island you can see lots of sea snake in the island. :)

If I was given the chance to go back to Palawan, I would definitely repeat the Honda Bay experience I had!

An Unforgettable Experience of One of the World’s Wonders

UnderGround River PPC

When I first learned that going to the Puerto Princesa Underground River was part of our itinerary, I and my friends literally jumped in joy. Heck, it’s one awesome experience! Just the fact that we will be seeing one of the world’s New Seven Wonders is exciting enough.

Sabang Beach Palawan

From where we were staying it was a good 2-hour drive to Sabang Beach where a boat to the Underground River waits for us. Though, it took us a little longer as we had a stop-over at Ugong Cave and tried spelunking and ziplining.

When we arrived at the Sabang Beach, we did have time to take lunch first. It was a little hassle there. There were a lot of processes. Well, I couldn’t blame them. The Underground River has been receiving too much volume of tourists in the past years and they just have to keep being organized to protect the place.

After our lunch and when we were called to ride the boat, we were just like kids who got our birthday present. The boat ride was around 20 minutes and it was wavy. I swear, the wind was so strong that it caused big waves. The big waves in turn made our travel like we were in a roller coaster ride.

Underground River

When we arrived there, the shoreline was so beautiful with a really tall lime stone on one side. I was also surprised when I saw macaques and Komodo dragons on the loose. We were reminded to not bring out shiny things to prevent these creatures from attacking us.

Anyway, we went further to the mouth of the cave. It was one thing to see the cave. It was another thing to go inside it.

The funny thing was when we were still entering the cave, we wore shades and the tour guide reminded us that it is going to be really dark inside. Stupid much.

UNDERGROUND RIVER

It was a long tour inside and we could smell something funny and the tour guide said that the smell came from bat manure. But above the smell, the rock formations were very exceptional. It was then that I realized why it was included in the New Seven Wonders of the World.

There were a lot of rock formations. The tour guide told us some background information about them. In the duration of the trip, which was around 30 minutes, I was in awe and I couldn’t be fully attentive to the tour guide. This is the reason why I could only note some formations.

There were the different formations that looked like animals. The boat guide will tell you what this rock formation looks like. We saw something like a fish, horses, elephants, and even a pterodactyl dinosaur. There was also this section called the “marketplace”. This is because the rock formations around look like vegetables. But, the section that wowed me was what they called the “Cathedral”. It was an area inside the cave where the ceiling is really very high and there was a rock formation that looked like the face of Jesus Christ.

It was a little sad when we saw the light at the end of the tunnel as it signified that the trip was over. But, it truly was an experience to remember, one that I would never get tired of sharing to people over and over again. I am definitely bringing my family there and tell them that we should be proud of this Philippine heritage.

El Nido

When we were discussing about our trip in Palawan, we just couldn’t miss the idea of going to El Nido. No one from our group has already been there so we were kind of confident. Little did we know that the road to El Nido wasn’t easy and it cost a little more than we expected.

It took us a long time to decide if we want to push through including El Nido in our itinerary as we got a lot of diverse reviews. Some said it was tiring to travel to El Nido and the transportation is very expensive while others say that everything is worth it once you get there. We decided to go with our gut and pushed through with it.

Well, what can I say? Everything they said was true. There were only two options of transportation to El Nido. One is in a public bus while the other is by a private van. The bus was really cheap but you should also expect discomfort and uneasiness with it. The van is comfortable but yes, it costs really high. We opted for the van anyway as we want to sleep comfortably through the long hours of travel.

El Nido

You see, it takes 7-8 hours before you can get to the little town of El Nido from Puerto Princesa. We left Puerto at around 2AM with a short stop for breakfast along the way and arrived at El Nido at around 10AM. We were able to negotiate with an affordable (a night only costs 500 pesos) inn to stay for the night. The good thing about this inn is that it can also offer you tour packages of the islands of El Nido. We took advantage of it and it was really surprising that it just costs 700 pesos up.

El Nido

We heard from a lot of people that Tour A was a good one. It is also the cheapest so we tried it. We first went to the Big Lagoon. I swear it was so awesome! The lime stones were so high and it was so eerie quiet. We then proceeded to Entalula to have lunch. Apparently, the tour came with a lunch feast that included grilled seafood and some fruits and drinks. After the delicious lunch, we proceeded to the Small Lagoon. I personally fell in love with the Small Lagoon. It was even quieter here than in the Big Lagoon. The ambience was so much calmer to the extent that you could feel the supernatural elements that dwell in the place. I just didn’t want to get away from it.

But sadly, we had to go to another place which is the Shimizu Island where we got the chance to go fish feeding. It was a fun experience because you will see schools of fish swarm you when you put food in the water.

Lastly, we spent the rest of the afternoon in the Seven Commandos Island where we soaked in the remaining rays of the sun that is about to set.

Some were true in saying that it was indeed tiring and expensive to go to El Nido. But, it was overpowered with the experience we got from there. It was like I get to experience a little bit of my favourite reality show Survivor, interacting with Mother Nature and indulging in a whole new culture that is far away from the city.

There is no doubt that I’d recommend this place to everyone. I would even do anything to get the chance to go back to this place over and over again!

El Nido

Isla Reta. Now, here’s a place for the beach bums! Usually, beach weddings are popular choices of younger couples who love to soak in the water under the sun. Experience romance in the cool seawater breeze with your other half at Isla Reta. Contradictory to Eden, Isla Reta is rather small and is best for those who only have a few guests and would like to hold the ceremony privately. Isla Reta is a part of Talicud Island in Samal. This means that you have to get on a ferry boat to go to this very beautiful resort.

Clearly, there are still a lot of additions to the list of wedding venues in Davao City. These are just personal opinions and the choice is still yours to make. Just a piece of advice: Whatever you decide, be sure that it is really what you want. Weddings are all about happiness after all.
